Leukemia/Lymphoma Society

Back in November, I decided to join in the cause of the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society. It is a health agency dedicated to brightening the lives of those fighting cancer as well as aiding research for the cure. My brother Danny (aka my biggest fan) is in remission after several grueling months of treatment, so I feel a strong sense of connection with what they do there.

The advocates at Utah’s Chapter of the L/L S, asked me to sing the National Anthem in front of thousands of people at the Utah Grizzlies Hockey game on January 23rd, in the Salt Lake City E-Center. I was honored by the invitation!

When I got in position on the side of the rink and waited for my cue, I looked out at everything, laughed at the cameraman’s jokes, and tried not to think about slipping.

Then the loud music stopped, the spinning lights cut out, and the heat of a huge spotlight spilled over me…I opened my mouth and somehow it all clicked! I am grateful I was able to just enjoy myself out there.

I am even more grateful, however, that I got to meet the compassionate (and hilarious!) people of the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society that night!

All of it reminded me that there is still so much good in the world around us…
